Another Salamander success in care home

Salamander

A full Salamander system has been successfully installed into the Emmaus Trust care home in Cumbria.

A total of 25 closers, three boosters and one controller were installed into the care home by Castle Alarms, an approved installer of Geofire’s Salamander range of products. The radio controlled, wireless system was installed into the care home with minor disturbance to the building’s fabric or residents.

Each door in the care home is held open using the “free-swing mode” and in the event of a fire alarm, the doors close upon receipt of a radio signal from a number of hardwired control panels strategically positioned around the building. The free-swing feature is particularly useful in a residential care home, allowing each resident to have their bedroom door in whatever position they desire. Furthermore, the door operation is light and easy when in the free swing mode.

Each of the 25 door closers are powered independently via the use of internal batteries and connected to one central controller. George Wells, Chairman of Cumbria Emmaus Trust said: “Replacement of the batteries is straight forward and the long term cost of batteries easily outweighs the cost of a hard wired system and the additional disruption to the building fabric. Overall Cumbria Emmaus Trust is satisfied with the system and the way the installation was completed by Castle Alarms.”
