Agrippa fire door closer

Nick Goddard installing a Salamander Closer

We want to ensure that the installation process of our Agrippa fire door closer is as simple as possible.

While we are more than happy to speak to you (should you need help with installation), here are some helpful hints and tips to consider alongside the installation instructions.

  • Before fitting the Agrippa fire door closer you should do a thorough check of the door:
    • Is the door hung straight? This can be checked by disconnecting the old door closer and seeing if the door swings open or remains closed. Look out for rising butt hinges as these will need to be changed to standard hinges.
    • Are there any obstructions surrounding the door, such as deep architraves on the door frame or furniture behind the door?
  • Estimate the latching angle (65 to 105 degrees) before fitting the latch plate, so that minimal adjustment is required.

Tips when learning the alarm

  • The Agrippa fire door closer should be in the open position when learning the alarm to ensure the closer can listen and learn the sound of the fire alarm’s sound as accurately as possible.
  • Before sounding the alarm for the learn cycle, you should ensure there is no background noise, this will affect the recording of the alarm. For best results, there should no noise from music, the TV or talking for example.
  • If your building has a fire bell, select option 9 after completing the learning cycle.
  • If you see the warning E4 or E6, the alarm noise is too quiet.

Checks after fitting

  • Check how the door closes. Do you need to adjust the closing speed screws?
  • If the door is not closing correctly, have you checked:
    • The surrounding floor, are there any carpets or rugs that could stop the door from closing?
    • Is the intumescent strip too high?
    • Is the sticker plate misaligned?
    • Is the door fitted correctly?
    • Is the door lock working as it should?
