Tips for fitting the Agrippa fire door holder

Posted on July 6, 2016

As the manufacturers of the Agrippa fire door holder, we want to make the installation process of our products as simple as possible.

Although we are more than happy to speak to you (should you need our help with installation), here are some helpful hints and tips to consider alongside using the installation instructions.

Fire door holder

Tips when fitting the Agrippa fire door holder

  1. Avoid warping the door.
  • If you are fitting the fire door holder to a door with an overhead closer, fit the holder near the top of the door.
  • If you are fitting the fire door holder to a door with a floor spring closer, fit the holder near the bottom of the door.
  1. Make sure the holder is fitted securely to the wall, especially on plasterboard walls as our magnets have a very strong holding force!
  1. Ensure the lid of the holder is fitted properly before learning, otherwise you may see the warning code E2.
  1. If there is not a wall directly behind the fire door, we can supply a range of accessories to enable to door to be held open, such as chain keepers and extension brackets.

Tips when learning the alarm

  1. The door should be in the hold open position to ensure the holder can listen to and learn the fire alarm’s sound as accurately as possible.
  1. It is very important that there is no background noise whilst the door holder is going through the learn cycle. For best results, our Agrippa fire door holder must only record the sound of your fire alarm. There should be no noise from the TV, music, other alarms or people talking for example.
  1. If you are in a building with a fire bell, select option 9 after completing the learn cycle.
  1. If the alarm noise is too quiet, you will see E4 or E6 on the visual display. You should increase the alarm volume to comply with BS 5839-1.

Checks after fitting

  1. Make sure the door closes properly. If not, can you answer yes to any of the following questions?
    1. Is the intumescent strip too high?
    2. Is the striker plate misaligned?
    3. Is the door lock broken?
    4. Is the fire door fitted incorrectly?
    5. Is the carpet or flooring stopping the door from moving freely?
